The upcoming models of the iPad seems to be the one true villain in terms of browsing speed. According to initial tests, carried out by British Cnet, is running as javascript just over four times as fast as current models.

One half of the explanation is of course that iPad 2 has a dual-A5 processor while the old iPad only has a single-core processor A4. The other half of the explanation is the improved JavaScript engine used in the IOS 4.3.

After Cnet updated system on the old iPad (iPhone and 4 for that matter) the difference was considerably less, which gave the following test results in the measurement program SunSpider 0.9.1:

1. iPad 2 with IOS 4.3 - 2097 milliseconds
2. iPad with IOS 4.3 - 3261 milliseconds
3. 4 iPhone with IOS 4.3 - 4151 milliseconds
4. Google Nexus S with Android 2.3.2 - 6128 milliseconds
5. Samsung Galaxy Tab with Android 2.2 - 7066 milliseconds
6. iPad with IOS 4.2 - 8321 milliseconds
7. 4 iPhone with IOS 4.2 - 10 414 milliseconds

Cnet also wanted to compare the results with Motorola Xoom (which run Android 3.0), but did not manage to get hold of a copy.

Tablets are this year's hottest gadget. Until recently, iPad was alone in the market, but now there are a dozen iPad competitors in the stores. We guide to market all tiles!

Seven months after the iPad launch, the market is now flooded with "iPad-copies". No, there is no doubt that the tablet is the hottest IT thing right now.

A tablet could be described as something between a PC and Smartphone. It looks like a laptop computer - the keyboard has been broken away. What remains is a pressure sensitive touch screen and you control the computer by pointing and dragging with your fingers. Need to enter text, pull up a virtual keyboard. Thus you see the keys on the screen and writing by pointing to them.

Under the hood lies generally Android or IOS. This is the same system used in a smartphone, and the two gadgets are used in much the same way. You simply charge the home of new programs, called apps, direct to the tablet. Some are free while others cost money, but because the program store is built into the system, it is easy both to collect and pay for apps.

The tablet is social

The big difference between a smartphone and a tablet is the size of the screen. The tablet screen is 70-10 inches with their considerably larger than the handset, and it will make it easier to surf and email, for example. Yes, the tablet can handle anything you can do on your regular computer.

The tablet is easier to bring than a laptop is obvious, but there are also other advantages. Because it is controlled from the screen, it becomes more social. It becomes easier to see such photo or directions on a map.

Another use is to read newspapers. The tablet screen is so big and sharp that it works well for both text and pictures, and thanks to the touch screen makes it easy to browse. Those who want to read the Daily News can take a subscription and get the whole magazine downloaded to the surf rolled in the morning, and there are similar efforts by newspapers and magazines worldwide.

The media world etched in stone on the tablets, not least because they can charge for their content. Another use is e-books. It is both easy and quick to download an electronic book to the surf board, and the large screen is ideal for reading. On the other hand is still dedicated e-book reader, because the battery life is better and sharper screen.

BlackBerry presents ipad competitor

BlackBerry playbook has been presented and is a direct competitor to the Apple iPad. The company behind it is called RIM and the product is expected to be launched in 2011, just in time for the new iPad 2 which is also expected this year. And Playbook Nagore has a few aces up its sleeve with its Blackberry Tablet OS and support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1. It can also play videos in full 1080p, thanks to its dual-core ARM processor at 1 GHz and 1 GB of internal memory. Support for multitasking, HTML5, frame video via DLNA (H.264, MPEG4, mf) for the 7-inch screen at 1024 x 600 resolution. And all at an unspecified price, which is presented in detail later.

This ipad competitor also interesting is the built-in feature for connecting your BlackBerry playbook with a BlackBerry smartphone to use this for internet access. You can also get push email, contacts, calendar and tasks via the connection of a BlackBerry smartphone - and thus need not rely on the built-in 802.11b / g WiFi all the time. But why not build in 3G support directly? It had been a real treat.

It supports playbook Java, OpenGL, POSIX and WebWorks, Adobe AIR, is on a corner and there are many interesting applications to retrieve, a pity that more products directly support the AIR today. Further specifications point to a micro USB port, HDMI connector, two cameras at the 3 and 5 megapixels, and so the operating system is QNX-based.
